STUDIO PRIMO chamber orchestra

Established in 2002 in Pleven, Bulgaria with the ambition to offer a chance for appearance of young musicians and to give concerts at stages outside the capital city with the great Bulgarian names in music. Studio Primo includes in its repertoire works from various styles and epochs – from masterpieces of the classics to new music with alternative sounding. In Studio Primo plays one of the best young instrumentalists in Bulgaria. During the past seasons the formation realised a cycle of concerts “The World Names Live with Studio Primo” with soloists: Vasko Vassilev, violin; Pamela Nicholson, piano; Svetlin Roussev, violin; Yildiz Ibrahimova, jazz-vocal; Teodossi Spassov, kaval (wooden flute) Studio Primo’s project with the Jazz Prima Yildiz Ibrahimova “Gypsy Romance” was featured in the programme of the European Music Festival 2004, organised by the Classic FM Club, as well as in the 20th jubilee edition of “Apolonia 2004”. The orchestra performed at the 25th anniversary edition of the “Katya Popova Laureate Days 2005” International Music Festival in the city of Pleven along with “Vassil Arnaudov” Chamber Choir and the soloists Gabriela Georgieva (soprano) and Andreana Nikolova (mezzo-soprano). In the 5th edition of the European Music Festival 2005 the cycle “World Famous Names Live with Studio Primo” went on with a concert of the Studio Primo Soloists quartet together with the virtuoso Milcho Leviev and starring the ethno-jazz vocalist Vicky Almazidu. It was followed by a co-project of the orchestra with the clarinettist Denica Lafchieva, presented in the framework of the European Music Festival 2006, conducted by prof. Petar Baberkov. One of the most successful projects of the Studio Primo Chamber Orchestra realised in Italy in March (2006) of the current year was the participation in a series of concerts on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth. Within 9 evenings all solo piano concertos by Mozart were performed, Todor Petrov being the soloists, as well as the most popular mezzo-soprano arias performed by Adriana Grekova. Studio Primo is working successfully with the conductor Ilia Mihailov – artistic director and conductor of the “Great Bulgarian Voices” choir. In 2007 they performed in the 20th Anniversary New-Year and European Music Festivals and Art Celebrations Apolonia; an art project of Theodosii Spassov and his old friends: Hristo Iotsov – percussions, Rumen Toskov – piano, Mihail Yosifov – trumpet – “Into the Vast”. Studio Primo works on projects for film music and recording productions in collaboration with the French company Musicdesign, Studio Helios XVI and its artistic director Christophe Jacquelin. The orchestra participate in one of the last his albums “Leaving the Ozone” (2008). Studio Primo is connected with the composer Mitko Shterev by their co-work on records and film music – Bulgarian National Television productions and participation in the anniversary concert of the author (2008).Studio Primo continues their partnership and creative eclectics of genres and styles in large-scale concerts together with Bluba Lu “World Melancholy”
